Dead or alive, you're coming with me. This game was such a nice breath of fresh air compared to all the recent games I've played. A simple linear game with an open world he size of a city neighbourhood. Even then some of your choices matter. But the best reason for playing this game is the gameplay. The shooting is just amazing. The weapons feel good, blood spatters just hit you in the spot and the enemy variety is decent enough. 10/10 would play again.
First of all combat, it is what makes up the bulk of the game and it is pretty solid. You do feel like robocop, heading out to teach criminals a lesson. And if they ain't willing to learn, they're willing to die. Your sidearm is strong enough (and upgradable enough) to be used as your primary weapon throughout the game. But experimenting with other guns is also fun. Each gun has a different feel associated with it. Rifles, shotguns, pistols, rocket launchers, sniper rifles, etc.
The destructible environment and throwing objects (and enemies) makes combat even more dynamic. Add your skills like breaching, slow motion, dash, shockwave, shield etc and you have all the necessary ingredients for simple yet complex game where different strategies are viable.
The other parts of the game aren't that polished, VA feels robotic for non-robocop characters as well. The skill tree provides some useful skills that you need to choose from initially, but most of it are just buffs to various stats. The auto9 motherboard mechanic is fun and useful in buffing your sidearm, but the chip merger mechanic feels wrong. With a little more thought to the merger mechanic, it could have been very useful in creating specific chips to max out your sidearm. The explorable world is also small (which isn't necessarily a bad thing) but even then it feels empty. There are a couple of bugs which made me reload to last checkpoint because I couldn't move ahead. Apart from that, DLSS was glitching out randomly, plus during longer play sessions, the FPS seemed to drop over time, which could be sign of a leak somewhere. But these are minor glitches/issues compared to most of the AAA releases of 2023, so I can forgive them. Because combat is supreme and that is why I am here.
The last contrivance I have with the game is the story. I still don't understand the main villain's reasoning. And well, robocop always breaks down when it is important to the story (and that is the only reason the story progresses). Subplots and arcs were pretty nice in the game though. The choices seem small and insignificant when looked from afar, but being robocop and making them feels like a big deal.
Overall, I will definitely play this game and increasing the difficulty even more. I played on hard so far, and the only times I died was when I had 7-8 skill points in the bag and not updated anything in a while. Boss fights can mostly be cheesed and they're all just damage tanks to begin with so that's fine imo. 10/10 recommend if you like shooters.
