Astro Bot

Cutest game I've ever played. For someone who hasn't tried any other cute platforming game (Mario), this was definitely a breath of fresh air. Visual design, sound design, gameplay, all of these elements screamed fun.

To determine if you'll like astrobot, just try out Astro's Playroom. It is a small game that Sony created to get you acquinted with the new DualShock 5 controller. And to show what kind of experiences are possible with it.
I finishde Astro's Playroom in 1-2 days and immediately wanted more. Only then did I order Astro Bot.

Astro Bot

Visually, the game has a cute asthetic with lil robots and plants and animals etc spread across levels. Each level has its own theme like desert, snow, clouds etc and even the same enemies sometimes have different skins. The animations of all characters is flamboyant and cute and full of emotion.

The soundtrack to some levels is insanely catchy to the point that they've gone into my regular rotation playlsit. Best part is that there are levels which are completely synced to the music. You can see NPCs dancing in sync to the music which just gives the game more life.
The sound design of levels, NPCs, dialogue (if you can call it that) is also perfect. Surfaces, conditions, actions all have distinct sounds.

Gameplay is easy to learn and hard to master. The base levels are quick work for someone who's played games for a while. For newcomers, they are challenging but fun. Not hard enough to make them quit.
For experienced gamers, there are special challenge levels which really do test your platforming skills. The best part about those levels is that even if you lose, you know it is your fault. Not because of some RNG bullshit.

What is really interesting is how they added all the different features of the controller into the game. Motion control to fly your speeder, climb walls etc.
Then the haptics, oh lord the haptics, absolutely beautiful, feel each step that astro takes, each floor has a different feel, be it mud, water, brick, road etc. Couple the haptics with the sound coming from the controller being distinct from the one coming from the TV, it genuinely gives you much more immersion into the game.

Story: Pretty basic stuff here but you really don't expect much from it and that's completely fine.

Overall: 9/10. Will definitely play it again one day. One mark deducted for a slight repetitive feeling towards the end. Though that may be my own fault as I was trying to go for 100% completion.
