Rice, paneer, corn and chillies. It's a classic and healthy dish that can be made fully in one hour with cleanup and including the time it takes to soak the rice. The best part is you only need to be present for maybe 20 minutes of that hour. So you just set timers as needed and finish off some work in the meantime.
Ingredients
- Rice - 1 cup
- Ghee - 1 spoon
- Dalchini/cinnamon stick - 1
- Jeera/Cumin seeds - 1 spoon
- Green chillies - 2
- Corns - 1/4 cup
- Paneer/cottage cheese - 75g
- Salt
- Haldi/Turmeric powder - according to taste
Prep
- Wash rice properly at least 3-4 times by changing the water
- Let it soak for 20-30 minutes
- Chop the paneer into small cubes
- Chop green chillies into small pieces
That's it
Cooking
- Pull up a frying pan and heat it.
- Drop your ghee in there followed by the Jeera and the chillies.
- Now add your corns and paneer cubes.
- Stir them for a few seconds until you hear a little sizzle of the Jeera.
- Drain the rice and add it to the pan.
- Add around 1.5-1.75 cups of water.
- Season with salt according to taste and at least half a teaspoon of haldi.
- Cover with a lid and let it cook for 15 minutes.
- Check if all the water is gone, otherwise cover it back and check in 5 minutes again.
- You now have some steamy and solid pulao.
Recommendations
I personally like to pair this with curd and papads (papadums or poppadums).
Just mix the curd and the rice. And if you want to, scrunch up the cooked papads and mix with the rice, or you can just break off pieces and eat it alongside.
